Caring for Your Piece

This piece was milled from a single blank of solid hardwood and finished by hand. No joints. No seams. Nothing to loosen. Cared for, it will outlast you — here's all it asks.

The short version

  • Keep it out of direct sun and away from heat vents and radiators.
  • Wipe with a dry or barely damp cloth — never soak, never spray cleaners.
  • Once a year, a thin coat of wax-based wood butter restores the sheen.
  • The friction fit breathes with the seasons — slightly firmer in summer, easier in winter. That's the wood, alive and working. It is not a defect; it's the point.

Wood butter

Any food-safe beeswax-and-mineral-oil blend works. Work a thin coat in with a soft cloth, let it sit twenty minutes, buff it off. The grain will deepen and the surface will feel new again.

What not to do

No dishwashers, no silicone polishes, no leaving it on a sunny windowsill. Water rings and dents can usually be rescued — if something happens to your piece, email us before you try anything drastic: contact@aventinehilldesigns.com.
